When you send an email, chances are that it's competing with hundreds of others for the recipient's attention. Here's how to compose emails that people will actually read, answer, and act on:

  • Get straight to the point. Make your request in the first few sentences. Be polite, but concise. Try an opening like, "Great interview. Thanks for sending it. May I ask a favor?"
  • Keep it brief. People find long emails irksome and energy-sapping. The more they have to scroll, the less receptive they'll be. Limit your message to a single screen of reading.
  • Write a short but informative subject line. With a generic or blank subject line, your message will get lost in your recipient's inbox. Be specific — try "The Nov. 15 Leadership Program" instead of "Program." If you're asking someone to take action, highlight that in the subject.

[HM:256276] No Tobacco Day

By Junaid Tahir:

No Tobacco day was observed all over the word today (31st May). The purpose of observing this day is to draw our attention towards health risks associated with smoking. Awareness programs in UAE electronic media were on-air discussing the life threatening risks of smoking. Further, the sale of tobacco was prohibited for the whole day in order to encourage the population, youth in particular, to get rid of this habit

Talking about Pakistan it is sad to observe that least awareness campaigns are observed in electronic and print media. Not a single TV ad was noticed in television all day long. Further, it is observed that the price of 20 cigarettes packet is only 5 AED in Pakistan comparing to that of Australia 60 AED and UK 40 AED.

It's a tragedy for a nation where joblessness density is increasing day by day; low cigarette price and its easy availability adds fuel the fire. The depressed youth have easy access to tobacco with the misconception that they will get quick relief from their stress without considering the long term cancers they are developing in their bodies.

On top of that the least effective attitude of ministries is very disheartening.  As per world health report in Pakistan 574

Cigarettes per adult per year are smoked. Comparing to India having 129, Nigeria 189, Afghanistan 98, Sudan 77 cigarettes per adult per year it is critically important for the health ministry to device concrete strategic moves in order to eradicate this disease from the nation. For example cigarette availability in the market should be limited, strictly prohibited for sale under 18 and the selling cost should be high so as to discourage people buying all kinds of tobacco products. Last but not least, a lot of awareness campaigns in print, electronic and social media are to run by relevant ministries and authorities.

[HM:256275] Story: The Cute Girl and the Toffee

Mr. Ahmed, was with his family driving towards home. While he was at a distance of 8-10 km from home, he thought of buying grocery so he took the family to the this market. Later, when the family reached home, the little 4 years old daughter said, "Look Baba, what I got from market?" Ahmed noticed that she had a toffee in her hand which she picked from the shop during the shopping and he didn't pay for it being unaware of this act.

Mr. Ahmed advised her with love and softness about this situation, took her to the car and drove all the way to the market again so that she can say sorry to the shop owner and he can pay the money 50 fils / 0.15 USD. On the way to the market he repeatedly told her daughter that her Baba is driving to the market again because they didn't pay the money for the toffee they took. When the girl said sorry in her cute voice, the shop owner was highly delighted with such a matter of honesty. The little girl learnt a big lesson of her life about honesty and also refreshed the same for the shop owner.

On the way back home, both, the little girl and Mr. Ahmed were very satisfied. The little girl thought that she is the best girl in town and Mr. Ahmed thought that he had a clean conscience which is the best pillow one can have.

Reflection:
1- Sometimes teaching with practical examples makes a big difference and the kids can learn lifelong lessons.

2- Honesty, even for small matters, should always be promoted in the society because it generates strong ripple effects.

[HM:256273] Being positive

You cannot instantly change the situation by being positive about it. What you can instantly change is your perspective, and that will give you an enormous advantage.

Even when there's no good justification for being positive, be positive. Because it is always far superior to the alternative, and gives you maximum power and effectiveness.

Being positive is a choice you can make that will connect you to the best possibilities. Being positive forces you to also be positively creative.

When things are difficult, do you really want to make them even more difficult by being negative? Choose instead to realistically see the situation for what it is, and then to be positive about moving forward from it.

Eventually, somebody is going to change things for the better, and it might as well be you. Think and see and do from a positive perspective and create good, meaningful value.

By being positive you are being powerful, useful, thankful, compassionate, sincere and highly effective. Make the choice to be positive, and truly make the world a better place.
