[HM:258485] Story: The Little Boy with Grandma

A little boy is telling his Grandma how "everything" is going wrong. School, family problems, health problems, problems with friends, etc.

Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which, of course, he does.

"Here, have some cooking oil." *"Yuck" says the boy.
"How about a couple raw eggs? " "Gross, Grandma!"
"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"

"Grandma, those are all yucky!"

To which Grandma replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

God works the same way. Many times we wonder why he would let us go through such bad and difficult times.

But

God
knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!"

[HM:258483] Story: The Black Stones

A farmer in Bangladesh was preparing his land for planting crops. As he dug through the soil the equipments kept getting stuck in one place. Out of curiosity he decided to check out what was in there. He dug the ground and discovered a big box. The farmer quickly opened the box to see what was in it but to his disappointment, there were only black stones inside the box. He decided to throw those stones at the birds when they come to eat the crops at the time for harvesting. Eventually, a day came when the crops were ready and the birds come to eat them. So, he started throwing the stones at the birds from where ever they showed up. One day a man was walking by the field who sells precious stones such as pearls, diamonds, rubies etc. Two stones happened to fall right in front of him when the farmer threw them at the birds. The man brought the stones to the farmer and asked if he was willing to sell them to him for $5,000 each. The farmer thought that the man was joking so he replied, "No." Then the man offered $50,000 for each stone and explained that they were precious jewels. Now the farmer started crying saying that he had only 1 or 2 stones left and the rest were thrown away.

[HM:258482] Story: The Costly Jaguar

A young and successful
executive was traveling down a neighborhood street,
going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar.. He was
watching for kids darting out from between parked
cars and slowed down when he thought he saw
something.

As his car passed, no children appeared.
Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door!
He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to
the spot where the brick had been thrown.

The angry
driver then jumped out of the
car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up
against a parked car shouting,

'What was that all about and who are you? Just what
the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that
brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why
did you do it?' The young boy was apologetic.
'Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't
know what else to do,' He pleaded. 'I threw the
brick because no one else would stop....' With tears
dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth
pointed to a spot just around a parked car.. 'It's my
brother, 'he said 'He rolled off the curb and fell
out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him
up.'

Now sobbing, the boy
asked the stunned executive, 'Would you please help
me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and
he's too heavy for me.'

Moved beyond words,
the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling
lump in his throat... He hurriedly lifted the
handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took
out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh
scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything
was going to be okay. 'Thank you and may God bless
you,' the grateful child told the stranger. Too
shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy!
push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk
toward their home..

It was a long, slow
walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very
noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair
the dented side door.

He kept the dent there to
remind him of this message: 'Don't go through life
so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to
get your attention!'
God whispers in our souls and

speaks to our hearts Sometimes when we don't have
time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's
our choice to listen or
not.

[HM:258480] Contentment & Discontentment

First of all, understand discontentment. Discontent is caused by a constant multiplication of desires.
One desire leads to another until there's never a moment when you feel fulfilled.
Desires are like traps.
Because of endless desires relationships have become very fragile. There is a lot of irritability and anger due to:
• Selfish attachments (to possessions and people)
• Pride (attachment to a particular image of the self)
When there is discontentment, the heart can never be still & peaceful because wasteful, negative thoughts destroy peace.
Contentment is the result of spiritual awareness which allows you to recognize negativity. It changes your pattern of thinking. As you tap your huge inner potential, all desires are fulfilled and you regain your peace.

[HM:258480] Desires are Trapping You

Staying Peaceful

Desires cause peace to disappear. You think that acquiring things will make you feel secure, but the reality is that the more you have the more fear there usually is of losing it, and the further you are from peace. Desires are the cause of all conflicts. When you want something and cannot get it you become frustrated.
Learning to be free from desires is learning how to stay peaceful

[HM:258479] Choose Feelings

If your days seem filled with unwanted negative feelings, there is only one cure. When they come, choose them. Don't ask why, don't wonder how, don't fight them and never put yourself down for having them. But most of all never blame someone else for how you feel. If you do, it means you are still fast asleep and your choice is to be a victim.

Live life to the fullest
The Power of Purity
Welcome the Unexpected

When the feelings come, even big disturbing emotional feelings say, "I choose this feeling" and know it comes because of something you have thought or done in the past, perhaps a certain belief that you have learned or an attachment that is threatened.

Choice does not mean you want the feelings, but it does mean you are taking responsibility for them. And that is the beginning of self mastery. It is the first step to the healing and resolving of your emotions. But only the first step. Try this today and then ask yourself what the next step might be. If you are really interested to know, you will come to know!

[HM:258478] Google Duo - A new Way of Video Calling

Google's new app, Duo, is a simple video-calling service that's available for Android and iOS today. Alongside the upcoming messaging app Allo, it's one of two communication apps Google announced earlier this year at its I/O conference, and one of four altogether from the company.

In a way, it's Google's answer to Apple's FaceTime, and it makes one-to-one calling between Android phones, and from Android to iPhone, very simple. Though both parties have to download the app to begin chatting (unlike FaceTime, which is baked into the dialer of compatible iPhones), it's still an intuitive app to use.

And while Android users will likely enjoy using Duo to video-call all their friends, iPhone owners won't find it compelling enough to ring up fellow iPhone users. However, it may certainly become their go-to app when calling up a buddy who uses Android. With that said, here are its main highlights:

You'll see previews with Knock Knock

Duo's unique feature is Knock Knock, which gives you a preview of who is calling by firing up the camera on the other end of the line. If you're initiating the call, you'll see a little notice that says your video is visible, which means the other person can see what you're doing right at that moment in real time. Android users can see Knock Knock regardless of whether Duo is opened or not (like on the lock screen). On the iPhone though, you'll only see it if you're in the app. Otherwise, you'll just get a little notification saying someone's calling you.

Google's rationale for this is that Knock Knock already gets you smiling before the call starts. Of course, that's assuming you actually like/want to speak to the other person who is on the other line. Seeing family members on the other line? That gets me smiling. Seeing the face of my boss? Mmm, not so much (see below). Editor's Note from said boss: "Hmph."

You can disable Knock Knock

Before you worry about seeing anything you don't want to see from the other line, know that you can only receive Knock Knocks from people who are already in your contact list. You can also block individual people from calling you. (By the way, when you block a person on Duo, the person won't know it. When they call, they'll just hear your line ring and ring continuously.)

If Knock Knock really isn't your thing, you can disable it altogether in Duo's Settings menu. You can't disable Knock Knock on a person-to-person basis though, so it's Knock Knock or nothing.

Its interface is super simple

Duo has an incredibly user-friendly and intuitive interface. Before you begin a call, you'll see icons to start a video call and your recent contacts (sorry, there's no audio-only option). During a call, you'll see yourself (in a small little circle), and icons to mute audio, switch cameras and hang up. Video from the other line fills up your screen and that's pretty much it. If you'd rather have your camera fill up the screen (for example, you're touring a house to the person on the other line), just tap the preview circle and your view will switch. Read more about getting started with Duo.

It's different than Hangouts (no, really)

At this point you might be wondering what makes Duo different than Google's other video-calling service, Hangouts, and you're not alone if you think the company has one too many communication tools. But according to Google, Duo is supposed to be way more specialized. Whereas Hangouts can be used on desktops, supports messaging and group chats, and has multiway video for collaboration (and its interface reflects these extra features), Duo does one thing and one thing only: video calls on your phone or tablet.

Unlike Hangouts, it reaches people through their phone numbers, not their Gmail. Other than downloading the app, you won't have to force anyone to log into their Google accounts or sign up for a new service. And the best difference between it and Hangouts? It uses end-to-end encryption, so your data can't be viewed from third parties or even Google itself.

It works only as well as your connection

Not surprisingly, if you have a good Wi-Fi or data connection, the app works smoothly. When I used it and had strong coverage, people looked clear and their voices were easy to understand. I experienced some lag from time to time, but it usually lasted just a few seconds.

When one of my colleagues was on a weaker Wi-Fi network, however, he was extremely pixelated. Though audio came in clear, his face just ended up looking like a study in 1880s pointillism. After he switched to a stronger Wi-Fi network, however, his image cleared up and our conversation was stable

[HM:258477] 13 Phone Interview Mistakes

All recruiters will agree that we like to get the best talents on board. And the key element in the recruitment process is the JOB INTERVIEW. Interviews set the pace of how things will proceed. One of the most interesting types of interviews is the phone interview (or preliminary screening call) where recruiters try to screen out all the unprofessional or irrelevant job seekers and send only the best to the hiring managers.

As a candidate, your CV might make you look like a champion in your field and help you get shortlisted for a phone interview, but you will still lose the race if you don't have what it takes to actually sell yourself over the phone. A few of the skills needed to ace a phone interview are listening and speaking skills, and of course, phone etiquette. If you want to run your career with an employer of choice, then you have to take things seriously and train yourself for every step in the recruitment process. It is immensely important to perform well in all different phases of the process because your performance during interviews predicts your performance on the next steps leading to a job. A recruiter is your ambassador and best chance of getting a job, and getting him or her on your side would be a great idea!

Here are the 13 most common mistakes job seekers make in a phone interview that can ruin their chances of getting the job:

1. Not answering the call at the set time. Please make sure you are available on the time of the interview. If not, then do re-schedule if an emergency arises. Otherwise, it will reflect on your professionalism and seriousness in getting the job.

2. The tone of your voice. The tone of your voice during a phone interview reflects a lot on your personality. A seasoned recruiter can make predictions on your personality traits simply by listening to your voice. So try to avoid sounding shy, hesitant, scared, unsure, or arrogant.

3. Being uninteresting. Try to sound excited and keep the recruiter interested in what you have to say. Let your enthusiasm reflect in your voice and answers. Take your time and think before you answer, and avoid the "Uh"s and "Um"s.

4. Talking to someone else and ignoring the recruiter. Please, if you have other things to do, schedule the call for another time.

5. Giving random answers. Instead of throwing random or irrelevant answers, try to listen closely and write your answer on a piece of paper while being interviewed. This will help you stay focused and give the right answers.

6. Eating while on call. This is probably one of the most unprofessional behaviors during a phone call with a recruiter. Remember, the phone interview is just like a regular, or physical, interview. Would you eat during an interview?

7. Taking the call casually. There's nothing more annoying to a recruiter than not being taken seriously. So try to find a quiet spot and give us all your attention, please.

8. Yawning. This is just like eating, would you do that if you were being interviewed in person?

9. Diverging the question.Try to not stray away from the question being asked. If you don't understand the question, simply ask your interviewer to explain it or give more details.

10. Volume. Don't speak super loud or super low. These two extremes are a deal breaker, trust me.

11. Saying "I am not interested" straight away. You may blow your chances before even getting details about the job at hand. You never know, this might well be the job of your dreams, so ask for more details; you may love the job once you know more about it.

12. Asking about the salary. So many fresh graduates and job seekers start by asking about the salary. Of course you should be concerned about the compensation, but if that's the only thing you are considering then you are choosing a path where you can make a few dollars but not a substantial career. Soon enough you will want to work for less money and more learning but that may be too late.

13. Interruptions. Not letting the recruiter finish the information they're sharing or questions they're asking is a big no-no. In fact, interrupting your interviewer will break their stream of thoughts and most likely upset them.

I hope this article helps you understand the significance of these screening calls and make an effort in learning from these mistakes. These calls can come at any time, so be prepared to talk to your ambassador – I mean, recruiter!

[HM:258476] 13 Skills that are Hard to Learn but will Pay off forever

The best things in life may be free, but that doesn't mean they won't take time, sweat, and perseverance to acquire.

That's especially the case when it comes to learning important life skills.

To ascertain which talents are worth the investment, one Quora reader posed the question: "What are the hardest and most useful skills to learn?"

We've highlighted our favorite takeaways, as well as a few other skills we thought were important.

Mastering your sleep

There are so many prescribed sleep hacks out there it's often hard to keep track. But regardless of what you choose, establishing a ritual can help ensure you have restful nights.

Numerous studies show that being consistent with your sleep schedule makes it easier to fall asleep and wake up, and it helps promote better sleep in general.

Empathy

"You can be the most disciplined, brilliant, and even wealthy individual in the world, but if you don't care for or empathize with other people, then you are basically nothing but a sociopath," writes Kamia Taylor.

Empathy, as business owner Jane Wurdwand explains, is a fundamental human ability that has too readily been forsworn by modern business.

"Empathy — the ability to feel what others feel — is what makes good sales and service people truly great. Empathy as in team spirit — esprit d'corps — motivates people to try harder. Empathy drives employees to push beyond their own apathy, to go bigger, because they feel something bigger than just a paycheck," she writes.

Time management

Effective time management is one of the most highly valued skills by employers. While there is no one right way, it's important to find a system that works for you and stick to it, Alina Grzegorzewska explains.

"The hardest thing to learn for me was how to plan," she writes. "Not to execute what I have planned, but to make so epic a to-do list and to schedule it so thoroughly that I'm really capable of completing all the tasks on the scheduled date."

Asking for help

"I once was told in a job interview, 'You can't have this job if you can't ask for help when you need it,'" Louise Christy writes. "Naturally, I said I could. Later, I found out that the previous person with that job had screwed up big-time because he was in over his head but couldn't admit it and didn't ask for help."

She explains that knowing when you need help and then asking for it is surprisingly difficult to learn and do because no one wants to be perceived as weak or incompetent.

But a recent study from the Harvard Business School suggests doing so makes you look more, not less, capable. According to the study authors, when you ask people for advice, you validate their intelligence or expertise, which makes you more likely to win them over.

Consistency

Whether you're trying a new exercise routine, studying for the LSATs, or working on an important project, Khaleel Syed writes, consistency is vital to maintaining any kind of success.

People often stop working hard when they reach the top, he says, but to maintain that top position, they have to work harder and be more consistent in their work.

Positive self-talk

"Ultimately it doesn't matter what others think of you," Shobhit Singhal writes, "but what you think of yourself certainly does, and it takes time to build that level of confidence and ability to believe in yourself when nobody else does."

On the other side of positive self-talk is negative self-talk, which Betsy Myers, founding director of The Center for Women and Business at Bentley University, believes can slowly chip away at your confidence.

Knowing when to shut up — and actually doing it

"You can't go around whining about every other thing that seems not-so-right to you in this world," writes Roshna Nazir. "Sometimes you just need to shut up."

There are many instances when keeping to yourself is the best course. "When we are angry, upset, agitated, or vexed," Anwesha Jana writes, "we blurt out anything and everything that comes to our mind." And later, you tend to regret it.

Keeping your mouth shut when you're agitated is one of the most valuable skills to learn, and of course, one of the most difficult.

Listening

Along with shutting up comes listening, Richard Careaga says.

"Most of us in the workplace are so overwhelmed with things to do — instant messaging, phones ringing. I mean, our brain can only tolerate so much information before it snaps," Nicole Lipkin, author of "What Keeps Leaders Up At Night," previously told Business Insider.

One tip for active listening is repeating back what you heard to the other person. "It makes things so much easier when everyone is on the same page," she said.

Minding your business

"It takes ages to learn and master this," Aarushi Sharma writes.

Sticking your nose into other people's work isn't helpful and wastes time and resources, she says. "You have no right to put forth your two or four cents, even if you are the last righteous person standing."

Resisting gossip

"The most important thing in life to me is relationships," Jason T Widjaja writes. "And the most important thing about building and keeping good relationships is trust."

One of the easiest ways to lose trust, he says, is to gossip about people behind their back.

Widjaja says learning not to gossip was hard to do because it meant missing out on possibly important conversations, distancing himself from influential people, and awkwardly having to tell people, "Hey, sorry to interrupt but I really don't need to know that, could we talk about something else?"

"But press on and you will get your priceless reward. Trust," he writes.

Mastering your thoughts

To do what you want to do and accomplish what you want to accomplish, you need to consciously direct your thinking, Mark Givert writes.

"The challenge is that we are the product of our past experience and all of our thinking is the result of this," he says. "However, the past does not equal the future."

Staying present in the moment

According to happiness researcher Matt Killingsworth, we tend not to be very good at staying present in the moment: he says that 47% of the time, people are thinking about something other than what they're currently doing. And this is hurting our happiness, he says:

"People are less happy when they're mind-wandering no matter what they're doing. For example, people don't really like commuting to work very much. It's one of their least enjoyable activities, and yet they are substantially happier when they're focused only on their commute than when their mind is going off to something else. It's amazing."

Warren BuffettMark Wilson/Getty Images

Speaking up

Speaking up in public can be so hard for many of us to do. Even the American business magnate Warren Buffett said that he was once so terrified of speaking in public that he would throw up. "In fact, I arranged my life so that I never had to get up in front of anybody," he told his biographer Alice Schroeder in "The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life."

It took practicing giving speeches numerous time in front of his Dale Carnegie speaking course classmates to finally conquer his fear.

"Some of it is just practice — just doing it and practicing," Buffett said. "And it worked. That's the most important degree I have."

[HM:258475] How to Recognize a Fake Job Offer

There are many fake job offers which job seekers get in their emails nowadays. While some can easily be distinguished as fake, others are not that easy. The below given list of points will help you to determine whether a job offer is genuine or fake.

1. The fake job offer email (referred to as email from here on) will tend to be boisterous and congratulate you in the subject line itself.

2. The domain names from which the email has been sent tends to be a bit shady. For example, let there be a company named ABC Inc. which is a genuine company. Now if ABC Inc. sends emails to job-seekers it will be from an @abc.com or @abc.org or @abc.net, etc email address. A reputed company will never use email services of Gmail or Yahoo Mail or Hotmail to send job offers to candidates (no matter how convincing it sounds, like abc_recruitment_drive@yahoo.com, it is fake). The candidate should exercise extreme caution while responding to such emails.

3. Usually, there is an attached file with the email (.doc/.docx/.pdf  etc) which will bear the name "offer letter" or similar names. If you open the document you will see that it is very colorful, i.e. very bright font colors have been used along with pictures while writing the letter. A reputed company will generally never use such bright font colors while sending official emails for the purpose of recruitment.

4. The most important point. There will be money involved in it. The sender of the fake email will state that you have to pay a certain sum of money to some bank account if you wish your candidature to be considered further. Never fall for this trap. No good company, no reputed company will ever demand money from the candidates for whatever reason. If the sender of the email demands money then the job offer is fake beyond doubt. The amount of money, the bank account number, will usually be highlighted in bright colors (red, bright green, orange, etc)

5. If you are good in English you will see that the entire letter will be filled with grammatical errors and absurd meaningless sentences. No reputed company sends emails with such blatantly wrong English. They would never do so because that dampens the image and reputation of the company.

6. The email will often state that you have been considered for a very high post at some company which will be very surprising and definitely suggests that it is fake. Unless you have very high educational qualifications or have many years of job experience, you will not get an offer for a very high post at the start of your career.

7. We are often tempted to reply to the fake email sender and hurl abuses at him/her. It is human nature but it is advisable not to do so. If you reply to the sender, you are confirming that your email address is genuine and this will attract more spam and fake offers in future. If you get a job offer and you are convinced that it is fake, simply mark it as spam and delete it. The thumb rule of safe internet usage and safeguarding yourself against these criminals is "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Remember this and use your common sense.

8. The job offer letter generally is an attachment in the form of an image. No reputed company will send job offers in the form of an image.

Below is a fake offer letter claiming to be from Tata Motors Ltd.
