[HM:257506] Story: Baloons Seller and the Kid

There was a man who made a living selling balloons at a fair. He had
all colors of
balloons, including red, yellow, blue, and green. Whenever business
was slow, he would
release a helium-filled balloon into the air and when the children saw
it go up, they all
wanted to buy one. They would come up to him, buy a balloon, and his
sales would go up
again. He continued this process all day.
One day, he felt someone
tugging at his jacket.
He turned around and saw a little boy who asked, "If you release a
black balloon, would
that also fly?"
Moved by the boy's concern, the man replied with
empathy, "Son, it is not
the color of the balloon, it is what is inside that makes it go up."

The same thing applies to our lives. It is what is inside that counts.
The thing inside of us

that makes us go up is our attitude.

Have you ever wondered why some individuals, organizations, or
countries are more
successful than others?
It is not a secret. These people simply think and act more
effectively. They have learned
how to do so by investing in the most valuable asset--people. I
believe that the success
of an individual, organization or country, depends on the quality of
their people

[HM:257506] Feel Good Factors - Stress Management Technique

By Junaid Tahir

Feel Good Factors (FGF) is a mental therapy which you can use in order to overcome your stress levels up to some extent. This is a technique in which you talk to yourself about the positive things which have happened in your past or currently happening.  You trigger the sense of "feeling good" about these blessings and achievements and train your brain to divert your focus towards the positive aspects of life instead of only thinking about crisis. You remind yourself that the more you do this self talk, the higher are the chances of reducing your stress levels because FGF and peace of mind are directly proportional to each other.

When you are in stress, you might think that you don't have anything nice to feel good about. Wrong! In fact, you can use your positive mindset and easily find good things around you to feel good about regardless of your circumstances. Remember the fact that blessings in your life fall in several categories (Social, Professional, Financial, Mental, Physical, relational, educational, technical, vocal, recreational, possession of home/car/bike and so on). So, in case you lack in one category, does not mean you are in deep crisis. There are billions of people on earth living on a lower scale than you.

While you analyze your current problems and thinking about the possibilities to resolve them, you must spare some dedicated time for FGF therapy on daily basis. Remember the fact that when you are in stress, your thought process gets impacted and does not produce the best results hence the germs of negativity need to be killed by FGF technique. The more you practice FGF, higher degree of gratitude starts developing in your brain which will result in immediate positive impact on your mental, physical and spiritual health.

Check out the below beautiful stanza which you can start practicing starting today:

When your head is on the pillow
and the day is almost done
Count God's blessings
Count them one by one.

[HM:257505] 9 Ways I Can Help Resolve Electricity Crisis

Electricity is the backbone of a country as millions of tasks, around the clock, are done with the help of electricity in industries, homes, offices, hospitals, schools and so on. Hence, for sure, a country's economy is seriously linked with its energy reservoirs.

Due to the on-going countless hours without electricity in Pakistan, it has become a grave concern of each Pakistani today on how to get rid of this situation. In fact this situation has raised the index of depression, stress and anxiety in society. Every soul is cursing the governments (current & past) for not giving proper importance and taking concrete steps on this subject. However, very minute population is really focusing on the solution of this crisis. Probably 99% of inhabitants think that construction of new dams is the only solution to the problem. This is a major sign of misunderstanding and unawareness because there are several other techniques, if wisely adopted can bring adequate improvement in resolving energy crisis.

Below I am going to draw your attention towards surefire steps for managing the situation at grass root level. The steps mentioned below are in the format of self-audit so that the reader can feel the sense of self accountability. If the answer to these questions are in negative then there is no need for cursing the government because the reader too, unfortunately,  not playing your role just like the government agencies and ministries.

1-    Have I replaced the High Wattage bulbs with the Energy Saving bulbs at my home, shop and/or office? I have to understand the fact that when I replace only one 80 watt bulb with 15 watt energy saver, I will save 65 watts. If one million people do the same, then overall 65 million watts (6500 KW or 65MegaWatts) of electricity will be saved. If the whole nation does this, imagine how much huge difference we can make !!!

2-    Do I use electricity wisely? At day times there is no need for lights. At night I should turn of my computers, ovens etc instead of putting them on 'sleep mode'. Every single watt matters if I consider the big picture.

3-
When I visit the market, do I encourage shop owners to turn extra bulbs and tube lights off ? Do I encourage them to use one large bulb of 100 watts instead of 5 small bulbs of 50 watts each?

4-
Is it possible to use Solar energy devices at home? I should search in the market to see if solar re-chargeable batteries are available?

5-
Too old appliances (Fans, machines etc) are consuming a lot of energy and increasing my monthly bills. In recent years a lot of new appliances are available which are smart and energy efficient.

6-
Do I turn the lights, fans and other appliances off when leaving the room?

7-
Do I turn the air conditioner off when I am away from home for more than 2 hours? Do I set the thermostat at 24 degrees?  Article written by Junaid Tahir

8-
If I belong to any media company (TV, print, internet, radio etc), can I arrange some seminars for the public awareness? Can I take some steps to share the knowledge with people who do not use internet?

9-
Should I share this email/article with more and more Pakistanis for awareness so that I can contribute to bring revolutionary impact in resolving the energy disaster?

As we know that there are thousands of jobless people because of the closed factories/industries due to energy crisis; the families of such people are living hand to mouth life now a days. So next time, when you carelessly use the electricity, tell yourself that partially you are responsible for the circumstances of those kids who didn't eat their food as their father didn't earn because of the closed factory/shop. Realize your responsibilities and play your role starting NOW instead of waiting for government to start the large and time consuming projects although pushing the relevant ministries in respective domains should not be stopped at all.

[HM:257504] 11 Things to Improve Your Self Confidence

Here are some quick tips to improve your Self Confidence. If we are committed to have a healthy self confidence there are many things you can do every day to boost your self confidence, each small steps that will help you to reach your goal. The good news is that self-esteem is not fixed and can be improved, try some of the steps below to boost your confidence and self-esteem.

1) Identify your successes. Everyone is good at something, so discover the things at which you excel, then focus on your talents. Give yourself permission to take pride in them. Give yourself credit for your successes. Inferiority is a state of mind in which you've declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized.

2) Look in the mirror and smile. Studies surrounding what's called the "facial feedback theory" suggest that the expressions on your face can actually encourage your brain to register certain emotions. So by looking in the mirror and smiling every day, you might feel happier with yourself and more confident in the long run.

3) Exercise and eat healthy. Exercise raises adrenaline and makes one feel happier and healthier. It is certainly an easy and effective way to boost your self-confidence.

4) Turn feelings of envy or jealousy into a desire to achieve. Stop wanting what others have just because they have it; seek things simply because you want them, whether anybody else has them or not.

5) When you're feeling superbly insecure, write down a list of things that are good about you. Then read the list back. You'd be surprised at what you can come up with.

6) Don't be afraid to push yourself a bit - a little bit of pressure can actually show just how good you are!

7) You can try taking a martial arts or fitness class/course (or both). This will help build confidence and strength. Invest in some new clothing and donate some of your old clothing to send a message to yourself that you both look sharp and feel sharp.

8) Try to make yourself talk positively at all times. When you hear yourself saying you can't do something, stop and say you can. Unless you try, you will never know whether you are able to or not.

9) Don't get wrapped up in your mistakes and dwell on bad points; they can contrast your good points or even give you something to improve. There's no feeling like being good at something you were really bad at.

10) Don't confuse what you have with who you are. People degrade their self worth when comparing possessions.

11) Surround yourself with nurturing friends, not overly critical individuals who make you feel inadequate or insecure. This could do great harm and damage to your self confidence.

Always remember "There is hair line crack between success and failure" Be sure to push yourself a bit, who knows that bit may lead you to success

[HM:257503] 10 Ways You Should Not Describe Yourself

Picture this: You meet someone new. "What do you do?" he asks.
"I'm an architect," you say.
"Oh, really?" he answers. "Have you designed any buildings I've seen?"
"Maybe," you reply. "We did the new library at the university..."
"Oh wow," he says. "I've seen it. That's a beautiful building..."
And you're off. Maybe he's a potential client, maybe not... but either way you've made a great impression.
You sound awesome.
Now picture this: You meet someone new. "What do you do?" he asks.
"I'm a passionate, innovative, dynamic provider of architectural services who uses a collaborative approach to create and deliver outstanding customer experiences."
And he's off, never to be seen again... because you sound like a pompous ass.
Do you--whether on your website, or more likely on social media accounts--describe yourself differently than you do in person?
Do you use hacky clichés and overblown superlatives and breathless adjectives?
Do you write things about yourself you would never have the nerve to actually say?
If so, it's time for a change.

Here are some words that are great when used by other people to describe you, but you should never use to describe yourself:

"Motivated."

Check out Chris Rock's response (not safe for work or the politically correct) to people who say they take care of their kids. Then substitute the word "motivated." Never take credit for things you are supposed to do--or be.

"Authority."

If you have to say you're an authority, you aren't. Show your expertise instead. "Presenter at SXSW" or "Delivered TED Talk at Long Beach 2010" indicates a level of authority. Unless you can prove it, "social media marketing authority" just means you spend a ton of time on Twitter.

"Global provider."

The vast majority of businesses can sell goods or services worldwide; the ones that can't--like restaurants--are obvious. (See?) Only use "global provider" if that capability is not assumed or obvious; otherwise you just sound like a really small company trying to appear really big.

"Innovative."

Most companies claim to be innovative. Most people claim to be innovative. Most are not. (I'm not.) That's okay, because innovation isn't a requirement for success.
If you are innovative, don't say it. Prove it. Describe the products you've developed. Describe the processes you've modified. Give us something real so your innovation is unspoken but evident... which is always the best kind of evident to be.

"Creative."

See particular words often enough and they no longer make an impact. "Creative" is one of them. (Go to LinkedIn and check out some profiles; "creative" will appear in the majority.)
"Creative" is just one example. Others include extensive, effective, proven, dynamic, influential, team player, collaborative... some of those terms truly may describe you, but since they're also being used to describe everyone else they've lost their impact.

"Curator."

Museums have curators. Libraries have curators. Tweeting links to stuff you find interesting doesn't make you a curator... or an authority or a guru.

"Passionate."

Say you're incredibly passionate about incorporating an elegant design aesthetic in everyday objects and--to me at least--you sound a little scary. Same if you're passionate about developing long-term customer solutions. Try focus, concentration, or specialization instead. Save the passion for your loved one.

"Unique."

Fingerprints are unique. Snowflakes are unique. You are unique--but your business probably isn't. Don't pretend to be, because customers don't care about unique; they care about "better." Show how you're better than the competition and in the minds of customers you will be unique.

 "Guru."

People who try to be clever for the sake of being clever are anything but. Don't be a self-proclaimed ninja, sage, connoisseur, guerilla, wonk, egghead... it's awesome when your customers affectionately describe you in that way, but when you do it it's apparent you're trying way too hard.

"Incredibly..."

Check out some random bios and you'll find plenty of further-modified descriptors: "Incredibly passionate," "profoundly insightful," "extremely captivating..." isn't it enough to be insightful or captivating? Do you have to be incredibly passionate?
If you must use over-the-top adjectives to describe yourself, at least spare us the further modification. Trust us; we already get it

[HM:257502] 6 Leadership Styles and How to Use Them

Taking a team from ordinary to extraordinary means understanding and embracing the difference between management and leadership. According to writer and consultant Peter Drucker, "Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things."
Manager:
Manager and leader are two completely different roles, although we often use the terms interchangeably. Managers are facilitators of their team members' success. They ensure that their people have everything they need to be productive and successful; that they're well trained, happy and have minimal roadblocks in their path; that they're being groomed for the next level; that they are recognized for great performance and coached through their challenges.
Leaders:
Conversely, a leader can be anyone on the team who has a particular talent, who is creatively thinking out of the box and has a great idea, who has experience in a certain aspect of the business or project that can prove useful to the manager and the team. A leader leads based on strengths, not titles.
The best managers consistently allow different leaders to emerge and inspire their teammates (and themselves!) to the next level.
When you're dealing with ongoing challenges and changes, and you're in uncharted territory with no means of knowing what comes next, no one can be expected to have all the answers or rule the team with an iron fist based solely on the title on their business card. It just doesn't work for day-to-day operations. Sometimes a project is a long series of obstacles and opportunities coming at you at high speed, and you need every ounce of your collective hearts and minds and skill sets to get through it.
This is why the military style of top-down leadership is never effective in the fast-paced world of adventure racing or, for that matter, our daily lives (which is really one big, long adventure, hopefully!). I truly believe in Tom Peters's observation that the best leaders don't create followers; they create more leaders. When we share leadership, we're all a heck of a lot smarter, more nimble and more capable in the long run, especially when that long run is fraught with unknown and unforeseen challenges.
Change leadership styles
Not only do the greatest teammates allow different leaders to consistently emerge based on their strengths, but also they realize that leadership can and should be situational, depending on the needs of the team. Sometimes a teammate needs a warm hug. Sometimes the team needs a visionary, a new style of coaching, someone to lead the way or even, on occasion, a kick in the bike shorts. For that reason, great leaders choose their leadership style like a golfer chooses his or her club, with a calculated analysis of the matter at hand, the end goal and the best tool for the job.
My favourite study on the subject of kinetic leadership is Daniel Goleman's Leadership That Gets Results, a landmark 2000 Harvard Business Review study. Goleman and his team completed a three-year study with over 3,000 middle-level managers. Their goal was to uncover specific leadership behaviors and determine their effect on the corporate climate and each leadership style's effect on bottom-line profitability.
The research discovered that a manager's leadership style was responsible for 30% of the company's bottom-line profitability! That's far too much to ignore. Imagine how much money and effort a company spends on new processes, efficiencies, and cost-cutting methods in an effort to add even one percent to bottom-line profitability, and compare that to simply inspiring managers to be more kinetic with their leadership styles. It's a no-brainer.
Here are the six leadership styles Goleman uncovered among the managers he studied, as well as a brief analysis of the effects of each style on the corporate climate:
1.     The pace-setting leader expects and models excellence and self-direction. If this style were summed up in one phrase, it would be "Do as I do, now." The pacesetting style works best when the team is already motivated and skilled, and the leader needs quick results. Used extensively, however, this style can overwhelm team members and squelch innovation.
2.     The authoritative leader mobilizes the team toward a common vision and focuses on end goals, leaving the means up to each individual. If this style were summed up in one phrase, it would be "Come with me." The authoritative style works best when the team needs a new vision because circumstances have changed, or when explicit guidance is not required. Authoritative leaders inspire an entrepreneurial spirit and vibrant enthusiasm for the mission. It is not the best fit when the leader is working with a team of experts who know more than him or her.
3.     The affiliative leader works to create emotional bonds that bring a feeling of bonding and belonging to the organization. If this style were summed up in one phrase, it would be "People come first." The affiliative style works best in times of stress, when teammates need to heal from a trauma, or when the team needs to rebuild trust. This style should not be used exclusively, because a sole reliance on praise and nurturing can foster mediocre performance and a lack of direction.
4.     The coaching leader develops people for the future. If this style were summed up in one phrase, it would be "Try this." The coaching style works best when the leader wants to help teammates build lasting personal strengths that make them more successful overall. It is least effective when teammates are defiant and unwilling to change or learn, or if the leader lacks proficiency.
5.     The coercive leader demands immediate compliance. If this style were summed up in one phrase, it would be "Do what I tell you." The coercive style is most effective in times of crisis, such as in a company turnaround or a takeover attempt, or during an actual emergency like a tornado or a fire. This style can also help control a problem teammate when everything else has failed. However, it should be avoided in almost every other case because it can alienate people and stifle flexibility and inventiveness.
6.     The democratic leader builds consensus through participation. If this style were summed up in one phrase, it would be "What do you think?" The democratic style is most effective when the leader needs the team to buy into or have ownership of a decision, plan, or goal, or if he or she is uncertain and needs fresh ideas from qualified teammates. It is not the best choice in an emergency situation, when time is of the essence for another reason or when teammates are not informed enough to offer sufficient guidance to the leader.

Bottom line? If you take two cups of authoritative leadership, one cup of democratic, coaching, and affiliative leadership, and a dash of pacesetting and coercive leadership "to taste," and you lead based on need in a way that elevates and inspires your team, you've got an excellent recipe for long-term leadership success with every team in your life.

[HM:257501] Stop Complaining Start Achieving

By Junaid Tahir

Your complaining attitude takes you away from your success. In fact it won't be wrong if I co-relate this with Newton's law that complaining and achieving success are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction. This means that the more you complain about your circumstances the more you move away from your destination and vice versa.
On top of that, if you keep complaining, you will give birth to two more mental diseases which are 'blaming' and 'criticizing'. When you don't like your circumstances you start finding faults in people around you and then you start blaming and criticizing them for your failures. Hence all three diseases, complaining, blaming and criticizing strengthen their roots in your brain and eventually this negative attitude becomes your personality trait.
When you complain you waste your precious time. You build negative energy which piles up in your brain stealing your peace of mind leading to chronic psychological disorders hence it's a concrete physical, mental and emotional loss which is no way closer to any kind of benefit.
On the contrary, if you are a hard working soul, you believe in your skills instead of luck. You believe in the  power of Now. You believe in power of making things happen instead of waiting for things to happen. Your analytical skills give you the luxury to break down the bigger problem into smaller problems and then you start fixing each problem one by one, moving near to your ultimate goal slowly and steadily.
So now is the time to decide whether you would like to live as a loser by complaining, blaming and criticizing OR live like a successful chap, the one who doesn't waste the time by looking in the past, the one who does not have a negative thought process, the one who is visionary and the one who once make a commitment then focuses on it all the way till the task is accomplished.
Complaining causes draining of energies and you are in position to lose your powers in this world of competition.
