[HM:257440] Story: The Unhappy Young Lady

The old Master instructed the unhappy young lady to put a handful of salt in a glass of water and then to drink it. "How does it taste?" the Master asked. "Very bad" Said the lady.

The Master then asked the young lady to take another handful of salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the apprentice swirled his handful of salt into the lake, the old man said, "Now drink from the lake."

As the water dripped down the young lady's chin, the Master asked, "How does it taste?" "Good!" remarked the apprentice. "Do you taste the salt?" asked the Master. "No," said the young lady.

The Master said, "The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the 'pain' depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things..... Stop being a glass.  Become a lake!"

[HM:257439] If You Want To be Strong

If you want to be strong, be patient, thoughtful and understanding. Anyone can be rude, but it takes real strength to be kind and polite.

If you want to be strong, be persistent. Enduring strength does not come in an instant, but is steadily built over time.

If you want to be strong, get in the habit of taking action. The strongest people are those who act while others only talk or wish.

If you want to be strong, be humble. Put your focus on doing, rather than worrying about getting credit.

If you want to be strong, be joyful. When you enjoy what you're doing, you are far more effective.

If you want to be strong, be yourself. The real strength you have is in the authentic person you are.

[HM:257438] Read this Story if Your Kids Chat Online

Shannon could hear the footsteps behind her as she walked toward home.  The thought of being followed made her heart beat faster.  "You're being silly," she told herself, "no one is following you."  To be safe she
began to walk faster, but the footsteps kept up with her pace.  She was afraid to look back and she was glad she was almost home.  Shannon said a quick prayer, "God please get me home safe." She saw the porch light burning and ran the rest of the way to her house. Once inside she leaned against the door for a moment, relieved to be in the safety of her home.  She glanced out the window to see if anyone was there.  The sidewalk was empty.   After tossing her books on the sofa she decided to grab a snack and get on line. There she could talk to strangers without being afraid. After all, no one knew who she really was and couldn't hurt her.
She logged on under her screen name "ByAngel213".  Checking her Buddy List she saw GoTo123 was on.  She sent him an instant message:
ByAngel213: Hi I'm glad you are on!  I thought someone was following me home today.  It was really weird!
GoTo123: LOL You watch too much TV.  Why would someone be following you?   Don't you live in a safe neighborhood?
ByAngel213: Of course I do...  LOL...  I guess it was my imagination... cause I didn't see anybody when I looked out.
GoTo123: Unless you gave your name out on line... You haven't done that have you?
ByAngel213: Of course not. I'm not stupid you know.
GoTo123: Did you have a softball game after school today?
ByAngel213: Yes and we won!!
GoTo123: That's great! Who did you play?
ByAngel213: We played the Hornets... LOL..their uniforms are so gross! They look like bees... LOL
GoTo123: What is your team called?
ByAngel213: We are the Canton Cats. We have tiger paws on our uniforms.   They are really kewl.
GoTo123: Do you pitch or what?
ByAngel213: No... I play second base. I got to go.. My homework has to be done before my parents get home. I don't want them mad at me...Bye
GoTo123: Catch you later.. Bye

GoTo123 decided it was time to teach Angel a lesson. One she would never forget.  He went to the member menu and began to search for her profile.  When it came up he highlighted it and printed it out.  He took out a pen and began to write down what he knew about Angel so far. ...Her name: Shannon ...Birthday: Jan. 3, 1985 age: 13 ...State where she lived: North Carolina ...Hobbies: softball, chorus, skating and going to the mall.

Besides this information he knew she lived in Canton. She had just told him.
He knew she stayed by herself until 6:30 every afternoon until her parents came home from work.  He knew she played softball on Thursday afternoons on the school team and the team was named the Canton Cats.  Her favorite number 7 was printed on her jersey.  He knew she was in the seventh grade at the Canton Junior High School. She had told him all this in the conversations they had on line.  He had enough information to find her now.
"She'll be so surprised," he thought, "she doesn't even know what she has done."

Shannon didn't tell her parents about the incident on the way home from the ball park that day.  She didn't want them to make a scene and stop
her from walking home from the softball games.  Parents were always overreacting and hers were the worst.  It made her wish she was not an only child.  Maybe if she had brothers and sisters her parents wouldn't be so overprotective.
By Thursday Shannon had forgotten about the footsteps following her. Her game was in full swing when suddenly she felt someone staring at her.  It was then that the memory came back.  She glanced up from her second base position to see a man watching her closely.  He was leaning against the fence behind first base and he smiled when she looked at him. He didn't look scary and she quickly dismissed the fear she had felt.

After the game he sat on a bleacher while she talked to the coach. She noticed his smile once again as she walked past him.  He nodded and she
smiled back.  He noticed her name on back of the shirt.  He knew he had found her. Quietly he walked a safe distance behind her.  He didn't want to frighten her and have to explain what he was doing to anyone.

It was only a few blocks to Shannon's home and once he saw where she
lived he quickly returned to the park to get his car. Now he had to wait. He decided to get a bite to eat until the time came to go to Shannon's house. He drove to a fast food restaurant and sat there until time to make his move.
Shannon was in her room later that evening when she heard voices in the living room. "Shannon, come here," her father called.  He sounded upset and she couldn't imagine why.  She went into the room to see the man from the ballpark sitting on the sofa.  "Sit down," her father began, "this man is a policeman and he has just told us a most interesting story about you."
Shannon moved cautiously to a chair across from the man.  How could he tell her parents anything?  She had never seen him before today!

"Do you know who I am Shannon?" The man asked

"No..." Shannon answered.
"I am your on line friend, GoTo123."

Shannon was stunned. "That's impossible!  GoTo is a kid my age! He's 14 and he lives in Michigan!" The man smiled. "I know I told you all
that... but it wasn't true.  You see, Shannon, there are people online who pretend to be kids; I was one of them. But while others do it to find kids and hurt them, I belong to a group of parents who do it to protect kids from predators. I came here to find you to teach you how dangerous it is to give out too much information to people online.  You told me enough about yourself to make it easy for me to find you. Your name, the school you went to, the name of your ball team and the position you played.  The number and name on your jersey just made finding you a breeze."

Shannon was stunned. "You mean you don't live in Michigan?"

He laughed. "No, I live in Raleigh.  It made you feel safe to think I was so far away, didn't it?" She nodded. "I had a friend whose daughter was like you.  Only she wasn't as lucky.   The guy found her and murdered her while she was home alone.  Kids are taught not to tell anyone when they are alone, yet they do it all the time on line. The wrong people trick you into giving out information a little here and there online.  Before you know it, you have told them enough for them to find you without even realizing you have done it.  I hope you've learned a lesson from this and won't do it again."

"I won't," Shannon promised solemnly.
"Will you tell others about this so they will be safe too?"
"It's a promise!"
That night Shannon and her dad and Mom all knelt down together and prayed.  They thanked God for protecting Shannon from what could have been a tragic situation.

[HM:257437] How Much Do You Know?

A person who knows not,
And knows not that he knows not,
Is foolish… Disregard him.

A person who knows not,
And knows that he knows not.
Is simple… Teach him.

A person who knows not,
but believes that he knows
Is dangerous… Avoid him

A person who knows,
But does not know that he knows,
Is asleep… Awake him.

A person who knows,
And know that he knows’
Is wise… Follow him

These categories of persons reside within every individual,
Hence it pays to know you,
How can you be true to thyself?
Stick to your class and avoid mistake in life.

[HM:257436] Top Ways to Prevent Diabetes

Whether you fall in the high-risk category for diabetes, or are simply concerned for your health, do read the top ways in which you avoid getting this disease.

A healthy diet and exercise can help prevent diabetes
. A healthy snack, by definition, is:
1. Low in fat, especially trans fat
2. Low in calories
3. Low-cholesterol
4. Baked rather than fried

A multi-grain snack made from oats, corn, rice, wheat and flax seeds are rich in fibre and provide wholesome nutrition. Oats, wheat have adequate amount of essential amino acids, vitamin B, calcium, iron and specially rich in cellulose whereas corn is an excellent source of iron, B` vitamins, magnesium, vitamin C, phosphorous and zinc.
Overall this multi grain snack brings you considerable health benefits along with great taste.

Of course, knowing what not to eat is as important as knowing what to eat. One should be wise enough to avoid fried, oily and generally high on calorie content snacks.
Besides this, healthy snacks are at the crux of reducing the chances of diseases, losing weight and keeping you energetic all day. The most important advantage of taking healthy snacks is that you do not binge later on foods that are unhealthy and may become the leading cause of obesity and other diseases.

Burn more calories that you consume
 - It is a healthy practice to consume fewer calories than you use. Eat foods that are not high in calories and increase your physical activity by walking more, taking the stairs whenever you can and making a conscious effort to stay active.

Be conscious of your measurements
 - A slim waist is not just a cosmetic vanity, it is also a sign of better health. As Indians, we have a tendency to gain weight around our midriffs and thus it`s very important to make an effort to keep the inches off. Experts suggest that women should keep their waist measurement below 80 cm (31.5 inches), and men below 90 cm (35.5 inches).

Start eating smaller, more frequent meals
 - Many of us follow the policy of eating three solid meals a day. Consider changing over to the divide and eat policy. So if you`re used to eating 4 chappaties, eat 2 now and 2 after a couple of hours. Also, whatever happens, don`t skip breakfast.

Include fruits and vegetables in your diet
 - It`s time to take control of what you eat. Make a conscious effort to include plenty of fruits (whole fruits are far better than juices) and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables, in your diet. The benefits to your overall health, sense of well-being and looks will be immense.

Gain with whole grains
 - Wheat, brown rice and oats are far healthier for you than refined foods. Make them a part of your diet and keep diabetes at bay.

There`s no escaping exercise
 - When it comes to prevention, the power of regular exercise is far greater than that of any medicine created. Through regular exercise, at least 30 minutes a day, you can prevent a range of diseases - from diabetes to heart disease. It keeps you feeling healthy, looking good and makes life far more enjoyable. If you`re not exercising already, start today.

De-stress
 - Experts have found a strong correlation between stress and diabetes. Don`t simply accept stress as a part of modern living. There are many things you can do to avoid and reduce stress in your life.

Quit smoking
 -

If you needed another reason to quit smoking, here it is. A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology showed that a person who smoked 16 to 25 cigarettes a day was three times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than a non`smoker.

Reduce salt intake
 - Hypertension and diabetes have a very close connection. In fact, the prevalence of hypertension in the diabetic population is twice that of the non-diabetic population. So if you have any of the risk factors of diabetes or hypertension, take care of reducing your salt intake.

Check your blood sugar and cholesterol levels - If you fall in the high-risk group, i.e., if you have a family history of diabetes, along with any one of the risk factors listed above, you must get regular blood sugar and cholesterol checks.

[HM:257435] Story: The Golden Gift

Some time ago, a friend of mine punished his 3-year old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy." He was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty. He yelled at her, "Don't you know when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside of it?"

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy, it;s not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and begged for forgiveness. My friend told me that he kept that old box by his bed for years. Whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us as parents has been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

[HM:257434] Story: Chuan and Jing

by Ahmed.
Chuan and Jing joined a wholesale company together just after graduation. Both worked very hard. After several years, the boss promoted Jing to sales executive but Chuan remained a sales rep.
One day Chuan could not take it anymore, tender resignation to the boss and complained the boss did not value hard working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.

The boss knew that Chuan worked very hard for the years, but in order to help Chuan realise the difference between him and Jing, the boss asked Chuan to do the following. Go and find out if anyone is selling water melon in the market?

Chuan returned and said yes. The boss asked how much per kg?
Chuan went back to the market to ask and returned to inform the boss the price is $12 per kg.
Boss told Chuan, I will ask Jing the same question?
Jing went, returned and said, boss, Only one person selling water melon.
Price is $12 per kg, $100 for 10 kg, he has inventory of 340 melons.
On the table 58 melons, every melon weighs about 15 kg, bought from the South two days ago, they are fresh and red, good quality.
Chuan was very impressed and realised the difference between himself and Jing.
He decided not to resign but to learn from Jing.
My dear friends, a more successful person is more observant, thinks more and understands in depth. For the same matter, a more successful person sees several years ahead, while we see only tomorrow.
Think! how far have you seen ahead in your life?
How thoughtful in depth are you?
