[HM:257449] Jealous because of success of others?

Let's be honest here :)

Have you ever found yourself secretly wishing someone else would fail? I don't mean you wish them any serious bad luck, only that they don't become more successful than you?

Sometimes it's hard to wish others well, particularly those you know well – friends, colleagues, neighbors, family members. It's hard to see a colleague get the promotion you worked so hard for. It's difficult to see your friend on television, or your neighbor able to purchase a new car.

While it can be seductive, or at least habitual, to secretly desire to keep others at your level, it's absolutely not in your best interest. The way to rise to the top is to wish everyone well, to hope with all your heart that everyone can expand to their greatest potential, to wish that the people you know, and those whom you don't know, can all realize their dreams and achieve greatness.

When you wish someone well, it creates a momentum within you, an inner environment of success. It reminds your spirit of your loving and deserving nature. It creates the atmosphere within you to help you succeed and create abundance. When you delight in the success of others, it's as if you are sprinkling the seeds for a garden of success.

As you wish others well, notice how good it feels. When your wishes are sincere, they will serve as a reminder that giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin.

Truly, it feels as good to see someone else succeed as it does to succeed yourself. Start delighting in the success of others and watch your own level of greatness soar!

[HM:257448] Experiencing Others' Pain --- A Win Win Situation This Way

The mosque is 5 minutes walk from the home and the passage is shade-less which means if a person has to walk to reach for Zohr prayer, he has to walk in sun all the way.  Considering 45 degrees temperature plus the hot air flow its little hard task to reach the mosque. The alternate is to reach there is by driving the car. Yet Mr Nasir thought to go to mosque by walk with the following two advantages:
  1. When you walk in the heat, you feel a little portion of the pain which gardeners, guards and cleaners have to go through daily while performing their duties. This kills your ego and make you feel like a down to earth person. And if you keep experiencing this pain, you tend to spend money for their benefits in terms of food, clothing etc.
  2. The dull and luxurious life style now a days has given birth to so many fatal diseases including heart choking, high sugar, high blood pressure, high uric acid etc.  Little physical work like this constitutes towards a healthy body and refrain it from developing chronic diseases. Further, sweating has several advantages like cleaner skin, lowering body temperature and guarding against sickness. Read this health article here.

So Mr Nasir selected the wise WIN – WIN option which is good for himself as well as for the society; directly or indirectly.

[HM:257447] How to Get Thicker Hair Naturally

If you have thinning hair, there is no need to spend money on expensive treatments and products. There are many natural remedies to help you get thicker and voluminous hair.Hair loss is a common problem nowadays. As hair is regarded as an asset that enhances one’s physical appearance, balding or thinning hair is a problem that many want to correct as soon as possible. Some of the common factors contributing to thinning hair are excessive physical or emotional stress, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, pollution, allergies, use of wrong hair care products, poor hair care routine, and heredity.

Here are the top 10 ways to get thicker hair naturally.

1. Eggs

Regular protein treatment is essential to enjoy stronger and thicker hair. For a protein hair treatment, the best ingredient is eggs.

  • Take one or two eggs, depending on the length of your hair, and beat it properly. Apply the egg on wet hair and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. Wash your hair with lukewarm water and shampoo. You can use this protein treatment once or twice a week.
  • Another option is to mix together one egg yolk, one tablespoon of a hair oil of your choice and two tablespoons of water. Use this mixture to massage your scalp thoroughly. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy thicker hair.

2. Olive Oil

Olive oil will also add body to your hair. Plus, it will help soften and strengthen your tresses.

  • Massage your hair and scalp with warm olive oil and leave it on for at least 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse it out thoroughly and wash your hair using a mild shampoo. You can also leave the oil on your hair overnight and then shampoo your hair the next morning.
  • Another option is to mix olive oil with some honey and apply the mixture on your hair. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes and then wash your hair.

Use either or these remedies once or twice a week.

3. Avocado

Avocado can also be used to get thicker hair as it moisturizes and adds body to your hair. Plus, the vitamin E in this fruit contributes to the overall health of the hair shaft.

  • Make a mixture of one mashed avocado, one mashed banana and one tablespoon of olive oil. Massage it on your scalp and leave the mixture on your hair for about 30 minutes so that the nutrients are absorbed by the scalp. Finally, rinse it out and shampoo your hair.
  • You can also make a hydrating hair mask by mixing two tablespoons of wheatgerm oil with half of a ripe mashed avocado. Apply this hair mask on freshly shampooed hair and allow it to sit for at least 20 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly and then shampoo your hair.

Use either of these avocado hair masks once a week.

4. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds can also be used to prevent hair loss and enjoy better hair growth.

  • Soak two to three tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water for eight to 10 hours. Grind the soaked seeds to make a fine paste. You can also mix two teaspoons of coconut milk in it. Apply the paste on your hair and scalp and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes before washing your hair with lukewarm water. When done weekly on a regular basis, this remedy will prevent dry scalp and help you enjoy thicker hair.
  • Another option is to use the water that the fenugreek seeds soaked in overnight as a hair rinse. This will encourage hair growth and help you to get rid of dandruff. Use it once or twice a week.

5. Indian Gooseberry

The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and exfoliating properties present in Indian gooseberry can help a lot in maintaining a healthy scalp and better hair growth rate.

  • Mix one tablespoon of Indian gooseberry or amla powder in two tablespoons of coconut oil and heat until boiling. Strain the oil and massage it onto your scalp before going to bed. The next morning, shampoo your hair as usual. Do this on a weekly basis.
  • Another option is to mix one-quarter cup of warm water in one-half cup of Indian gooseberry powder and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Apply the paste on your hair and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Do not shampoo your hair for a few hours. Follow this remedy every few weeks.
  • You can also take the Indian gooseberry fruit and its extract as a dietary supplement for healthy hair.

6. Castor Oil

Massaging your scalp regularly with cold-pressed castor oil is one of the easiest ways to get thicker hair naturally. Due to its high viscosity, it coats the hair thoroughly and protects against hair fall. Plus, being high in vitamin E and fatty acids, it promote hair growth.

  1. Heat a mixture of equal parts of castor oil and coconut oil. Simply using castor oil will also work but it tends to be too thick.
  2. Apply it on your head and scalp and massage in circular motions.
  3. Comb your hair to distribute the oil throughout your hair and remove tangles.
  4. Cover your hair with a towel moistened with warm water.
  5. Leave it on for at least one hour and then shampoo your hair as usual.
  6. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy lustrous and thick hair.

7. Aloe Vera

aloe vera gel

Another very popular ingredient that can be used to enjoy thicker hair is aloe vera, thanks to its moisturizing quality. It will also help restore the pH balance of the scalp.

  • Extract the gel from one or two aloe vera leaves and rub the gel onto your scalp. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing your hair with lukewarm water. Do this once once or twice a week on a regular basis.
  • Another option is mix two teaspoons of coconut milk in fresh aloe vera gel and apply it to your scalp. Leave it on for about half an hour before rinsing it off and shampooing your hair. Repeat once or twice a week.
  • You can also consume one tablespoon of aloe vera juice daily on an empty stomach to enjoy better hair growth and overall health.

8. Henna Leaves

henna

Another easy way to get thicker hair naturally is to apply henna. Henna leaves will give your hair a rich natural color and make it thicker, softer and less prone to breakage .

  • Grind a handful of fresh henna leaves with a little water to make a fine paste. Let it sit for two hours and then apply it to your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap. After a few hours, wash your hair thoroughly and shampoo your hair.
  • Another option is to mix sufficient water in henna powder to make a paste with a yogurt-like consistency. Instead of plain water, you can also use green tea for better conditioning. Keep the henna paste aside overnight. The next day, add one raw egg and two teaspoons of lemon juice to this mixture. Apply it to your hair and leave it on until it dries completely. Finally, wash it off and shampoo your hair.

Note: Make sure to wear your gloves when using henna and apply the paste using a hair brush to avoid staining.

9. Flaxseed

flaxseeds

Being rich in omega 3 fatty acids and protein, flaxseed can also help in promoting thicker naturally.

  • Soak one-quarter cup of flaxseeds in water overnight. The next morning, boil the flaxseeds in two cups of water over high heat while stirring occasionally. When the thickens to a consistency of foamy jelly then turn off the heat and strain the gel. You can also add a few drops of an essential oil to it. Allow it to cool and then use it as a hair gel. This flaxseed gel is particularly good for those with curly or wavy hair.
  • Even eating freshly ground flaxseeds can help promote shiny and thicker hair. You can also take flaxseed oil.

10. Healthy Diet

healthy diet milk

A healthy diet rich in protein and various vitamins and minerals is an essential prerequisite for healthy and thicker hair. Protein and B vitamins, in particular, promote thicker and longer hair.

So, include more milk, eggs, Greek yogurt (has more protein than the regular yogurt), poultry, fatty fish, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and fresh green vegetables in your diet.

Follow these remedies religiously and you will notice improvement in your hair texture and thickness in a matter of weeks.

[HM:257446] 3 Frogs

Question

Answer
THREE
Why ?

Because the frog only DECIDED to jump ! It didn’t !

Ponder over this, my friends…….
Are we not like the frog ; who decides to do this, decides to do that, but ended up doing any ?

In life, we have to make my decisions. Some easy, some hard. Most mistakes are not made by wrong decisions. Most mistakes are made due to indecision. We have to live with the consequences of our decisions. And that is RISK.

[HM:257445] Story: Two Seeds

Seed Growth Life Freshness
Two seeds lay side by side in the fertile soil.

The first seed said, "I want to grow! I want to send my roots deep into the soil beneath me, and thrust my sprouts through the earth's crust above me ... I want to unfurl my tender buds like banners to announce the arrival of spring ... I want to feel the warmth of the sun on my face and the blessing of the morning dew on my petals!"

And so she grew...

The second seed said, "I am afraid. If I send my roots into the ground below, I don't know what I will encounter in the dark. If I push my way through the hard soil above me I may damage my delicate sprouts ... what if I let my buds open and a snail tries to eat them? And if I were to open my blossoms, a small child may pull me from the ground. No, it is much better for me to wait until it is safe."

And so she waited...

A yard hen scratching around in the early spring ground for food found the waiting seed and promptly ate it.

Moral of the Story...Those of us who refuse to risk and grow get swallowed up by life.

[HM:257444] Healthy Food Substitutes

Whether you're health conscious or a little overweight or blessed with a speedy metabolic rate, keeping an eye on your diet is always recommended. Cutting down your food intake isn't always the answer. All it takes is a sensible substitute. Here are a few suggestions for healthy substitutions:

Healthy Food Substitutes

Gelatine desserts vs. cakes and brownies

We all know just how rich cakes and brownies can be and that these rich delicacies leave us poorer in health. Gelatine desserts can be a delicious and healthy alternative. They not only leave you with stronger and shinier hair and nails, but are said to help with metabolism and muscle growth. The collagen that gelatine contains in said to be excellent for joint movement as well as moisturizing skin, keeping it smooth and fi rm .

Yogurt vs. cream

Yogurt contains bacteria which helps in digestion. This bacteria also boosts the immune system and prevents the growth of a lot of ha rm ful bacteria. Yogurt also feels a lot lighter than cream.

Healthy Food Substitutes

Brown bread vs. White bread

White bread is white because it lacks the bran and ge rm that is present in brown bread. With the absence of the bran and ge rm , the nutritional value goes down leaving white bread with fewer amounts of zinc, fiber, thiamin, niacin, trace elements and good fats and oils.

Red sauces vs. white sauces

Apart from the obvious reason that creamy white sauces are more likely to add on the kilos than the tangy red ones, the cooked tomatoes that make up the red sauce are said to contain the antioxidant lycopene which is good at preventing cancer and heart diseases.

Granola bar vs. candy bar

Granola bars usually contain oats, nuts, honey, grains and dried fruits and is a rich source of vitamins and fibre. Candy bars are usually loaded with fat, sugar and artificial colour. Granola bars are the clear winners.

Healthy Food Substitutes

White meat vs. red meat
Red meat as we know contains a lot of ha rm ful fats that lead to heart diseases. White meat on the other hand has no such issues and is also a good source of proteins.

Brown rice vs. white rice

As in the case of white bread and brown bread, white rice lacks the vitamins, minerals and fibre present in the brown rice.

Frozen yogurt vs. ice cream

Frozen yogurt and ice cream aren't very different. They both contain similar sweeteners and about the same calories. They are both sources of calcium and protein. The difference lies in the cultures present in the yogurt. As mentioned above, these cultures assist in many digestive functions. Although frozen yogurt is a narrowly healthier choice when compared to ice cream, it should be kept in mind that this type of food is as fattening as ice cream.

Healthy Food Substitutes

Olive oil vs. margarine
Olive oil like margarine is fattening. The difference lies in olive oil's antioxidant properties. These properties reduce the risk of heart diseases by lowering LDL cholesterol levels and increasing HDL cholesterol levels. Margarine on the other hand increases HDL levels thereby increasing the risk of heart disease.

Soya-based products vs. meat
It sure looks like it! Soya products match meat when it comes to protein content. Soya also contains fibre which helps with digestion. They also contain lesser calories than meat products and make a wiser option for the weight-conscious.

Fresh fruits vs. canned fruits

Instead of picking up that can with fruits swimming, no wait, drowning in syrup, just pick up some fresh fruits which retain the enzymes and vitamins which are otherwise lost during the canning process, as well as keep your weight down.

Healthy Food Substitutes

Honey vs. sugar

Have you ever heard the phrase, 'sugar is a polluted sweetner'? It is in a way. In the production of sugar, a lot vitamins and minerals are lost. Honey has no such problem.

Hummus vs. mayonnaise

Hummus contains less fat and more sodium when compared to mayonnaise. Mayonnaise as we know can contribute to our bad cholesterol levels in a ha rm ful way, so hummus makes a good substitute.

Dark chocolate vs. regular chocolate

Dark chocolate has better antioxidant properties when compared to milk chocolate. This benefits the heart as well blood flow and not to mention gives you

that additional mood-boost. Dark chocolate also contains less sugar and is a much better option for figure-conscious chocoholics.

[HM:257443] Story: Good People Bad People

City Gate
An old man sat outside the walls of a great city. When travelers approached, they would ask the old man, "What kind of people live in this city?" The old man would answer, "What kind of people live in the place where you came from?" If the travelers answered, "Only bad people live in the place where we came from," the old man would reply, "Continue on; you will find only bad people here."

But if the travelers answered, "Good people live in the place where we came from," then the old man would say, "Enter, for here too, you will find only good people."

Reflection:
Color of this world is based on the color of your eyes, color of your glasses. The way you perceive the things; your understand, your thoughts and your experiences. Good and Bad people you will find everywhere in the world, in every country, in every society it is up to us, what we are looking for.

[HM:257442] Excel Tip: Inserting Background Image in Chart

Tony sends this chart and asks if it can be done in Excel.

It sounded like a good challenge for a lazy Sunday morning. So here we go. (Posting it on Monday).

How to create a column chart with background image in Excel ?

Now I could not get an oil rig photo or that data. So I made up few numbers and used a photo of Flinders street station I took when I was in Melbourne last year.

Step 1: Arrange the data.

Arrange the data like this.

Arrange data like this - column chart with background image in Excel

Step 2: Create a column chart

Select the data, insert a stacked column chart (why not a regular column chart?, you will understand in a minute).

You will get this.

Create a simple column chart - - column chart with background image in Excel

Step 3: Set up image as background for chart's plot area

Select chart's plot area. Press CTRL+1.

Choose picture or texture fill and select the file with image you want.

Fill chart's plot area with an image - - column chart with background image in Excel

Step 4: Add dummy max-series

In your data, add a column which gives the difference between column values & axis maximum. For our test data, I choose 1,400 as axis maximum, so the dummy series values are,

Dummy data series - - column chart with background image in Excel

Now add this series to chart.

Step 5: Format the chart

Now, we are almost done. Our chart looks like below. We just need to format it.

Final chart before formatting - - column chart with background image in Excel

  1. Select the columns (any series) and press 1
  2. Adjust gap width to 0%
  3. Fill the dummy series with a chosen background color.
  4. Make the data series transparent (fill color = no color)
  5. Add borders to data series. Border color should be same as background color.
  6. Adjust the border thickness to 3pts.
  7. Adjust axis maximum to 1,400 (or any value you have selected in Step 4).
  8. Remove grid lines, legend and any un-necessary chart fluff.

Your column chart with background image is ready!

Finalized column chart with background image made using Excel

Note of caution: Go easy with images

The main purpose of a chart is to convey information. By adding a background images, sometimes your chart will be difficult to read. So I suggest you to go easy with background images.

Download Excel workbook with this chart

Click here to download Excel file with this chart and play with it. Examine the chart formatting settings to understand this technique better.
