Pictures of American landscapes rarely lack huge candelabrum-like cacti. As a rule, these are giant Carnegia cacti (Carnegia gigantea).
Carnegia lives for 150-200 years sometimes reaching weight of 7 tons.
Widely spread root system is placed at the very soil level.
Maybe that's why in radius of 15-20m there are no other cacti.
The resistance of these cacti to unfavourable conditions is amazing: more than a year they may live without water, and off-shoots continue blooming even after dying off of a main stem.
The stem of Carnegia is rather thick and some species of woodpeckers make hollows in it where other birds may nest afterwards too.
Flowers have light pleasant aroma.
